 Important Message About Castor Oil
FYI for those 2-Cycle racers who use castor oil. Castor oil will separate in your fuel below 50 degrees. (Will not mix or stay mixed, no matter how much you shake it). Morning temps are forecast to be in the mid 40's. Don't get stuck on the grid cranking your Yamaha only to be pumping straight castor oil and no fire in the hole.

Re: Important Message About Castor Oil
There is something you can add to eliminate this but it renders your fuel illegal.

Re: Important Message About Castor Oil
Nitro needs to be run with propalene oxide and at least 25%.

Re: Important Message About Castor Oil
And nitro will burn pin size holes through your piston. I still remember Saturday nights at Harrisburg Raceway Pace laps with the smoke BURNING your eyes and throat from all the exotic fuels people used to run. (Fastest used to start on the tail)

Yes!....and I remember the early days of the indoor circuit at Marion. They finally put a stop to it(exotic fuels) because so many people were getting sick. If they suspected your fuel, a sample would be taken and sent off to be checked.

Re: Important Message About Castor Oil
In the cooler seasons just use synthetic oil and you will be fine.

Re: Important Message About Castor Oil
Butch, why the propalene oxide? does this help with flash point for the Nitro since it is all running with the gasoline? I know typically if you don't use gas you can use alcohol and nitro. That's what we used on small 2 stroke engines. My brother mixes his own fuel and races remote control boats. They will turn some high rpm's and fast.

Re: Important Message About Castor Oil
Proylene oxide is an excellerator to allow complete combustion. It's like a bonding agent and has excellant masking capabilities as far as testing goes. It has a flash point of around 90 degrees. It's been around racing for years, but I think the Feds outlawed it. This stuff is bad news, and is credited for lung problems and kidney failure. This stuff is like cyanide. Years ago Sprint car racers(and drag racers) used this stuff to mask the Nitro in the methanol. If you're around it very long, you will be able to smell it. Nasty stuff!
Other nasty chemicals that used to be used in fuel are nitrobenzene, tolulene, and phenol. All of these additives are very toxic.
